about

"Still Life" is a surreal song about songwriting that echoes the Beatles and Radiohead. Shifting chord changes and a lilting melody create a sense of anticipation. The lyrics inspire the listener to wonder about the fuzzy line between imagination and reality.

lyrics

The fan is spinning
The room is standing still
A picture hangs up on the wall
I’m not living
I am just a metaphor for life
Sitting on the couch I am singing
Singing singing singing

I am held down
By the force of gravity
Like you I stand upon the earth.
My legs are weary
My spirit’s giving out
And I breathe in and when I breathe out I am
Singing singing singing

Paperclips upon my desk
Suddenly begin to rise
Oh my god I rub my eyes
My records and my barbells
And my pencils and my blankets
And some fuzz behind the couch
It’s all
Floating floating floating

{solo}

Of course you know that
It is just a trick
A skit a scheme to entertain you.
And so I realize
That in fact nothing can rise
And it all comes crashing down
Crashing down crashing down crashing down.

I am in another mess
I best clean up before a guest
Arrives and wonders if I’m crazy.
Maybe yes and maybe no
But before you judge me so
Just try, try a little singing
Singing singing singing
